Happy Mother's Day!

Many of you know that my dear mother passed away when I was young. She was an amazing lady, and one that taught me a great deal through how she lived her life. She cared for her community, teaching me at an early age the importance of looking out for those around you. I remember often visiting the elderly in our small town with her and being in awe of how caring and thoughtful she was. While she had faults just like the rest of us, her legacy inspires me to love fully, laugh often, and reach out to those around me. Today I not only celebrate her but the many special women who have guided and taught me since she has been gone--my sister, aunts, cousins, mentors, teachers, and friends. I also honor our father who raised my sister and me to the best of his abilities. He continues to serve as father, "mother", and friend and is perhaps the strongest person I know.

I am blessed to now be a mother. It is exciting each day to experience the world through our daughter's eyes--she amazes and astounds me. Each Mother's Day since she was born has been even more special than the last.

The following is a poem taken from a book about blessingways. I do not know the author. It was read at my blessingway, and I read it at the Mothers Blessings we do with the Holistic Moms Network. Enjoy!

A Mother’s Blessing

Breathe deeply and know
That you are not alone.

The Mothers of all the ages are smiling
As you walk the well-worn path to motherhood.

Breathe deeply and know
That your questions will be answered.

One by one,
Like seeds sprouting in the garden,
Insights will reveal themselves to you
As you open and trust yourself.

Breathe deeply and know
That you are blessed.

Sacred life stirs in you,
Awaiting its time to shine forth,
Like nothing you have ever known before,
It will astound you with its overwhelming brilliance.

Breathe deeply and know.
