As a social worker, I have seen first hand the importance of preventative medicine and health screenings. I hope you will pass on the following information to anyone you know who might benefit.
On Saturday, June 20th, in Knoxville, Men that Matter will offer minority men in the area preventative health screenings. The Fountain City Focus also notes “Screenings are offered for women as well during the event, which focuses on individuals who might not otherwise receive preventative health screenings.”

Hi, Gabrielle! I was a social worker, too (before having 5 kids)...
ReplyDeleteMy guess is that they might welcome the blood glucose monitors we are able to pick up for free. And there are, of coarse, other free clinics in town (interfaith, and there's one in south knoxville on Chapman for the working poor). I would feel very good about helping out someone who was volunteering their time to help others. Whenever I can, I donate to the Love Kitchen. These women have been serving the community for many years (and they are just the sweetest ladies!) Thanks for posting things like this.
I was at an all day training today and spoke with Pastor Reagan there (Catholic Charities). He would be very appreciative of having any meters we would like to donate for the people he works with. Interfaith does not need them. I haven't spoken with Dr. Kim yet (he is the one you mentioned on Chapman), but he is on my list of contacts. If anyone wants to donate the meters to our church (Faith UMC), I am happy to get them into the hands of people who need them. I am giving a bag of them to an internist friend of mine at Baptist for her needy patients. I have donated to Lisa Ross and Ft Sanders OB/GYN for their patients as well.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your post!!
