I started these posts a few weeks ago, and they seem to be well received. Each week, I'll try to highlight a few shelf stable food items from the circulars that could be added to food supplies. I'm sure that there are probably many more deals than this, and please post them in the comments section as you see them.
Walgreens--Mandarin Oranges are 2/$1 with in store coupon. I can sometimes find them slightly cheaper than this, but this is a decent deal.
Kroger--With another Mega Sale in the Atlanta/Knoxville area this week, there are many options. Kellogg's cereal with the back to school rebate would be free. Remember to always complete your rebate as soon as you get back home so that these do not go to waste. In order to work the rebate, you must buy 10 boxes of cereal in the same transaction. These are on sale for $1.99 (when you buy 10 you get $5). If you have 10 of the $1/1 coupons, these are down to 99cts. When you complete the rebate you will get $10 back, making them free.
Other--Do you have a small first aid kit in your car yet? You might be surprised at how often these come in handy. You can pick them up at Target for a dollar or so or make your own as supplies go on sale.
Food Security--Save your seeds this year. Depending on what zone your garden is in, you might be at the point where you can start saving some seeds for next year. Check out this oldie but goodie at Mother Earth News for more information.
If you have not already started planning your fall garden, now is the time to do it. If you have the space, consider planting an extra row or extra few plants to donate to a local shelter or food pantry.
