Have you been to the new Fountain City Kroger yet?

banner_logo_header Today I went to the new Kroger in Fountain City with our daughter for the opening.  It was so exciting to be there on the first day and to see all of our favorite Kroger employees so happy and proud of their new store.  The mood in the store was elated, and there were many extra Kroger staff available to help the customers.

When I told our daughter about the new store months ago, her first question was, “Will there be car carts like they have at Aunt Mary’s Kroger?”  For weeks she has been looking forward to riding around in one of those carts.  Alas, there weren’t any left when we arrived at the door.  She was so deflated.  I was pleased she didn’t act out, but she was so sad about it.  We checked back a couple of times and didn’t find any.  Mid way through shopping, an employee asked us if he could help us.  I asked about a cart, and he said, “Let me see what I can do.”  About 5 minutes later, he returned triumphant with a cart for my daughter.  She was THRILLED!  You would have thought someone gave her a new toy, and she was grinning ear to ear for the rest of the trip.

The store is very bright, very big, and full of colors and new foods.  With all of the hustle and bustle of more people in the store, it was almost the casino experience—lights, colors, sounds all geared towards distracting you so that you will buy more.  I don’t think that every trip will feel that way.  When I saw a reader at Chick-fil-a today getting her coupons and shopping list ready, though, I suggested she try to stick with her list to avoid impulse buying.  I only picked up a handful of impulse buys and those were FANTASTIC deals specially priced for the opening.  I’m glad I had a plan to keep me from going crazy, though!

I left my receipt in the store.  We had to walk a ways to our car, and the entire time I was kicking myself about not having my receipt.  I saw Katie as I was driving out and visited with her for a quick minute.  Seeing a fellow couponer convinced me that I should bite the bullet and go back inside for my receipt.  She was so sweet and said that she would have done the same thing.  Only a fellow couponer and Dave fan would have understood!

We had a great time at the new store today!  We enjoyed wonderful snacks, scored some great deals, and saw many of our friends at the store.  Congratulations Mr. Cavalaris on the new place!

This is what I bought on our ticket.  I used a $5/$45 and a $6/$60 coupons to help reduce the amount.

I spent $35.59.  I saved $52.79.  I saved 59.83%.

Great job! I went myself, spent $35.12 and saved $68.07! I got 20 items from the mega-sale, meats, and a few other things for holiday baking and for my mom's pantry. Most of the meat were "impulse" buys but packages of tenderloins for $1.49? $1.29/lb spareribs? No question!
