This photo is a little uninspired. I remember taking it when I was in a rush to slather on some butter and devour the warm bread. That is what happens when you become a blogger—you find yourself taking photos of the food you are eating!
This whole wheat bread recipe was adapted from one I found in a cookbook by Donna Rathmell German.
Honey Whole Wheat Bread in the Bread Maker
1 1/2 cups water (room temp)
1/2 cup honey (buckwheat honey and darker honeys offer a deeper flavor)
1/2 t. salt
3 T. Vital Gluten
2 cups whole wheat flour (if using freshly milled, choose hard red or a darker wheat)
2 cups white whole wheat flour (found under the King Arthur label, or if using freshly milled, choose soft white)
2 1/2 t. yeast
Add all of the ingredients but the yeast in the order they are listed. Make a well in the flour and add the yeast to the well. Turn the bread maker on to make a large loaf at medium setting.
