What to watch for at local farmers markets: fresh eggs, milk, meats, lettuces (though with the heat you’ll find fewer of these), greens (think kale, bok choi, Swiss chard, broccoli raab, lambs quarters, and Chinese cabbage), edible flowers, green cabbage and maybe some Napa cabbage, broccoli, green/spring onions, the first of the hot peppers, summer squashes (crookneck and zucchini, maybe some pattypan), green tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, and maybe a few red early tomatoes, herbs, potted plants and flowers, honey, and home canned goods like jams and jellies.
