Tip of the day

We are more than half way through the year and are now at the point when I start to stash away goodies for stocking stuffers.  In addition to a few special treats that Santa leaves, I add some of the free after coupon or rebate deals that I’ve scored throughout the year.  Watch for expiration dates on items like toothpaste.  Other than that, store what you have room for and can use at the end of the year.

Toothpaste, toothbrushes, dental floss, floss picks, gums and hard candies, razors, shaving creams, body washes, shampoos, bubble baths, nail files, fingernail clippers, bath fizzies, deodorants, energy drinks, vitamins, and just about any other freebie you can think of made their way into stockings for our relatives this last year.  When I estimated the cost of these treats, it would have cost over $200 to give away all that we did.  All of that and we were still able to regularly donate toiletries to our church pantry and an outreach program at our daughter’s school.   Start saving now, and you might be amazed at all you have by December!

As part of making shopping for freebies a regular weekly routine, I highly encourage you to check out Blue Frog Creations weekly Shopping For Charity posts.  She shares her experiences shopping at drugstores, Target, and Kroger for freebies that she later donates to a local charity.  So many charities can benefit from these donations—if you don’t want to save them for stocking stuffers for your family, why not make up some stockings to donate to a local shelter, domestic violence shelter, or community center?
