Tip of the day—Be grateful for your body

Why is it that we women are so hard on ourselves?  Looking in the mirror or getting on the scale isn’t a simple task—we belittle ourselves, focus on what parts of our bodies we would change, and self flagellate about the should have, would have, and could have’s.  (As in, I shouldn’t have eaten that piece of pie.  I should have worked out today). 

Try something different today.  Spend a few moments of meditation focusing on your body.  Breathe deeply.  Recognize the way your body feels supported as you sit or recline.  Reflect on your hands and the work that they do caring for those you love.  Consider your heart and lungs and how they help to provide your body with energy and life.  Give praise for your mind and all of the intricacies of its working, allowing you to remember those you love and perform countless daily tasks.  Think about your womb and how amazing it is to be able to give life and your breasts and how wonderful it is to be able to give sustenance.  Be aware of your back and shoulders and be grateful for the ability to rock crying babies and hug people who are mourning.  Be amazed at your skin, the largest of your organs, for how it not only protects you but shows your history through every laugh line, scar, and wrinkle.  Be grateful for your legs and feet that you can run to your loved ones when they need you.  Continue to reflect on your many parts and think of how they serve you each and every day of your life. 

The next time you look in the mirror, remind yourself of this meditation and how it made you feel.   Hopefully you will then see with  your heart instead of with your eyes how beautiful and amazing you really are.
