Tip of the day—Schedule in yourself

Hustle and bustle pretty much sums up most people’s calendars this time of the year.  Shopping, Christmas plays and programs, parties, potlucks, Christmas decorating, Christmas cards, wrapping presents—the list goes on and on with the to-do’s of the holiday season.  Where does time for yourself fall on that list?  Are you taking a little time for yourself each day?  Time for doing something that is restorative and relaxing?  No, well you aren’t alone.  I’d say that most of the people reading this (and typing this) can identify with how difficult it is to actually schedule time for yourself.

Try something different today.  Pull out your calendar or scheduler.  Look at the week.  Begin to write in or key in at least 15 minutes a day for you.  How you choose to spend that time will be up to you, but I encourage you to try and not fill it with a task.  Schedule your exercise time or hair appointments separately.  Fill this time with something that will refresh you instead of something that you can simply cross off of your list of must-do’s.  You might be surprised at what a difference it makes in the way you feel and act.  At the very least, you’ll be setting a good example for your children or loved ones on the importance of self-care.
