Soap Making and Cheese Making Workshops

Below is information from a farmer I know who lives just west of the Knoxville area in Clarkrange, TN (between Crossville and Jamestown).  I’ve used her soaps before and they are fantastic!  If you are interested in signing up for the classes, you’ll find Belinda’s email address below, which is the best way to reach her.

The Soap Making Workshop will guide you through the basics of soap making, both hot process (in a big black kettle) and cold process soaps. We will be working with lye, it is recommended that you not wear your Sunday best. Bring plenty of Tupperware type containers in which to take home the soap you have made.

The Cheese Making Workshop will introduce you to the art of making cheese. We will be working with both goat and cow's milk. Farmer's Cheese, Cottage Cheese, Mozzarella, Ricotta and an aged cheese such as Colby, will be made as well as yogurt. Bring some containers to take home our finished products.

We will begin promptly at 9am Central and end when things are done, sometime between 1 and 3pm Central time. Participants are welcome to join us in our Bed and Breakfast for a simple lunch or bring their own.

Minimum size for a workshop is four, maximum is ten persons. Small class size allows for plenty of hands on experience and attention during the workshops. All supplies are included in the price of the workshop
