REMINDER—TN Free Fishing Day, June 11

slideshow10 Info below is from Jamie Woodson.  We’ve participated in TN Free Fishing Day before, and it was so much fun.  I hope you and your family will plan to take part this year!

Tennessee’s Free Fishing Day is set for June 11th this year, with dozens of Kids Fishing Day events being held across the state, according to the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA).

All fishing on public waters will be free that day.  Residents and non-residents (adults and youth) are exempt from license and permit requirements for that day.  In addition, youngsters, ages 15 and younger, may fish free for an entire week, beginning on Free Fishing Day and continuing through the following Friday, June 17.

Many organizations---including the TWRA---are planning special fishing events primarily aimed at attracting youngsters to the outdoors.  With the number of events scheduled across the state, everyone should be able to find one near where they live.

A list of Free Fishing Day events is available on TWRA’s website.  Although most of the events are scheduled for June 11 (Free Fishing Day), some will be held on other dates.  Remember that during events not on free fishing day, those ages 13 and over will be required to possess appropriate licenses.

The site will be updated several times in the days prior to June 11.  Once on the Agency’s website, click on “For Anglers” in the blue bars on the left side of the page, then “2011 Kids Fishing Events” at the top of the page.

Free Fishing Day and Week apply to Tennessee’s public waters, Agency owned and operated lakes, and state park facilities.  Some privately owned pay lakes continue to charge during this special day and week.  Please consult with lake operators if you have any questions about the status of a particular facility.
