Tip of the day—Prioritize your health

Time to check the girls!  Once a month perform a self check breast exam and remind those you love to do the same.  It only takes a few minutes and might help you detect a lump or abnormality.  Remember to have a clinical exam one time a year and a mammogram when you are over 40 or earlier if your healthcare provider recommends due to a family history of breast cancer.

This time of the month it is also a good idea to remind the men in your life to perform a testicular check for lumps.  Early detection of a testicular lump could save his life!

While you are thinking about prevention and healthcare—when was the last time you had your cholesterol checked?  An annual physical?  A check for skin cancer and abnormal moles?  Your blood sugar level checked?  When was the last time you went to the dentist to get your teeth cleaned?  If you said, “I don’t know” to any of those questions, now might be a good time to set up some appointments.  I talked to a friend day before yesterday on the phone who is recovering from a heart attack.  She said that she had all of the classic signs for a woman for a heart attack, and she ignored each and every one of them.  Your health is important.  Prioritize it and don’t ignore what your body is telling you.  The people in your life need you and want you around for a long, long time.
